Itinerary

• Morning: The Journey and Early Game Drive

  Your adventure begins early in the morning. Your professional safari guide will pick you up at 5:00 AM from Kigali International Airport or your hotel in Kigali. First, you will receive a short briefing about the day's itinerary. Afterward, you will drive eastward for about two and a half hours to reach the park. As soon as you arrive at the park entrance, you will complete the registration and enter the wilderness. The morning hours offer the best time to see wildlife because temperatures are cool and animals are highly active. You will immediately start your game drive through the southern sector of the park. Keep your camera ready as you search for majestic elephants,buffaloes, lions, rhinos, occassional leopards, grazing zebras, impalas, baboons, and topis. Furthermore, Akagera is a paradise for birdwatchers, so look out for colourful species flying among the acacia trees.

• Afternoon: The Boat Cruise at Lake Ihema and Return to Kigali

  After a thrilling morning of tracking wildlife, you will head toward Lake Ihema for a midday break. You can enjoy a refreshing lunch while taking in the beautiful lakeside views. Following lunch, you will board a boat for an afternoon cruise on Lake Ihema, which is Rwanda's second-largest lake. This water safari offers a completely different perspective of the park. While drifting along the shoreline, you will get incredibly close to large pods of hippos and massive Nile crocodiles sunbathing on the banks. Furthermore, Akagera is a paradise for birdwatchers. Therefore, look out for spectacular water birds, including kingfishers, fish eagles, and the rare shoebill stork. Finally, after the boat cruise concludes, you will pack up and begin your return journey. Your guide will drive you back to Kigali and drop you off safely at your hotel or the airport in the evening. This brings your unforgettable one-day safari to a close.
