Your day begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel or lodge in Kabale. After meeting your guide, you’ll set off on a scenic drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, located about 2.5 to 3 hours away. The journey offers breathtaking views of southwestern Uganda’s rolling hills, crater lakes, and the towering Virunga Volcanoes. 1 Day Golden Monkey Trekking Safari from Kabale
Upon arrival at Ntebeko Visitor Centre, the park headquarters, you’ll be welcomed by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers for a pre-trek briefing. They’ll explain the rules, what to expect during the trek, and introduce you to the fascinating world of the golden monkeys, an endangered species only found in the Virunga Mountains.
The Golden Monkey Trekking begins mid-morning, leading you into the bamboo forests at the base of the volcanoes. These playful and fast-moving primates are a delight to watch, often jumping from tree to tree and feeding on bamboo shoots, fruits, and leaves. The trek usually lasts 2 to 4 hours, and you’ll spend about one hour observing the golden monkeys once they are located.
After the trek, you’ll return to the park headquarters to receive a certificate of participation, then drive back to Kabale, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
