Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on a 1 day Uganda gorilla tour

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park lies in South Western corner of Uganda at the edge of the East African Rift Valley. Bwindi became a full national park in 1994. Bwindi is covered by a large and diverse rain forest that is believed to be over 25,000 years old. Of the 324 tree species, 10 are only found in Uganda. Mountain gorillas are the main attraction in the park. 0ver 20 of the 36 gorilla families in Bwindi are habituated and open to tourism.

Bwindi is divided into four sectors Nkuringo, Rushaga, Ruhija & Buhoma. Each sector has some habituated Gorilla groups, Bwindi is perfect for gorilla trekking because the park has more Gorilla groups than Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park or Virunga National Park in Congo.

The Batwa culture Experience.

Visit the Batwa if interested, Visiting the Batwa is a great opportunity to experience the culture of one of Africa’s indigenous tribes. The Batwa lived in Bwindi as forest gatherers and hunted for thousands of years before they were evicted to create room for the gorillas.  They do this by showcasing their cultural heritage through music, dance and drama.

For your 1 day Gorilla Tour

You are picked up by your driver guide at 6:00 am after your early breakfast from your hotel either in Kabale or Kisoro. Transfer to the mighty Bwindi Impenetrable National park, whereby you will arrive at the park headquarters at the time of briefing, there after you will be grouped in a group of 8, though some times only 2 or 3 or 4 trackers may trek; this is based on the season, be advised to carry enough water for drinking as well as enough snacks or packed lunch since the trek is so strenuous and can take from one to eight hours depending on how these endangered giants move within the natural habitat.

The park rangers accompany you to the rain forest to begin your search of the mountain gorillas. Trekking can be tough some times, so one needs a walking stick. It also needs someone who is strong enough and physically fit. The trekkers should also carry rain coats and boots since the weather is unpredictable and just changes. You will also need to use the porters to help you carry your luggage at a cost of $20

The moment you come eye to eye with the gorillas, your rangers will guide and show you how to handle and behave while with them, mainly by standing 7 meters away from the gorillas as you enjoy viewing them. It’s always hard to tell how long the trek will take, since in most cases it is dependent on the movement and location of the gentle giants.
