Itinerary

• Day 1: Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

  Your safari begins early in the morning. Your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport at 4:00 am. First, you will drive northward through Rwanda's rolling hills toward the Katuna or Cyanika border post. After completing the border immigration formalities, you will enter southwestern Uganda. Next, you will head straight to the Bwindi park headquarters for a mandatory briefing. The park rangers will explain the safety guidelines and assign you to a specific gorilla family. Afterward, you will trek into the ancient rainforest to locate the primates. This trek can last between two to six hours, depending on where the gorillas nested the previous night. Once you find them, you will spend exactly one hour watching them feed, play, and rest. Following this incredible wildlife encounter, you will hike back to the trailhead. Finally, your guide will transfer you to your nearby lodge for dinner and a restful night.

• Day 2: Lake Bunyonyi to Kigali

  After an early breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and drive to Lake Bunyonyi. This lake contains 29 islands and features beautiful, terraced hillsides. Upon arrival, you will board a motorized canoe or a traditional dugout canoe for a scenic boat cruise. During the cruise, you will explore historical spots like Punishment Island. You will also view a wide variety of local birds, as the lake's name means "place of many little birds." Consequently, this peaceful boat ride provides excellent photography opportunities. Eventually, you will return to the shores and meet your driver. You will then start your return journey to Rwanda. Ultimately, your guide will drop you off at your preferred hotel in Kigali or directly at the airport for your departure flight. This marks the end of your 2-day safari.
