Packing appropriately is key to a comfortable and rewarding chimpanzee trekking experience. Here’s a comprehensive guide:

• Long-sleeved shirts and trousers: Essential for protection against thorny vegetation, stinging nettles, and insects. Choose quick-drying, breathable fabrics in neutral colors (khaki, green, brown). Avoid bright colors and camouflage patterns.
• Warm sweater or fleece jacket: Mornings and evenings in Kibale can be cool, especially at higher altitudes.
• Lightweight rain jacket or poncho: Kibale is a rainforest, and rain showers can occur at any time, even during the dry season.
• Comfortable T-shirts/tops: For warmer parts of the day and around the lodge.
• Socks: Several pairs of thick, long socks to tuck your trousers into, offering extra protection against insects like safari ants.

Footwear:

• Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots: This is the most crucial item for chimpanzee trekking. Ensure they are well broken-in to prevent blisters, as trails can be muddy and uneven.
• Comfortable walking shoes/sandals: For relaxation at the lodge and non-trekking activities.
