Overview:
This 4-day safari offers an unforgettable journey through two of East Africa’s most iconic primate destinations — Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. You’ll experience two thrilling encounters: trekking playful golden monkeys in the bamboo forests of the Virungas and meeting the majestic mountain gorillas in the misty jungles of Bwindi. This cross-border adventure is ideal for wildlife enthusiasts looking to explore the best of Rwanda and Uganda’s primate treasures in a short, seamless trip.
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
Your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport for a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, located in the beautiful Musanze region in northern Rwanda. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of Rwanda’s rolling hills and lush countryside, often called the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”
Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and relax as you prepare for the next day’s adventure. If time allows, you may visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a taste of traditional Rwandan culture and dance.

Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Transfer to Bwindi
After an early breakfast, head to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing before setting off on your golden monkey trek. These rare primates are endemic to the Virunga Mountains and are known for their playful nature and striking golden-orange fur. Watching them leap gracefully through the bamboo forest is a delight.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch, then drive across the Rwanda–Uganda border at Cyanika or Katuna and continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half of the world’s mountain gorillas. The journey offers breathtaking scenery of rolling hills and terraced landscapes.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Today is the highlight of your safari — gorilla trekking in Bwindi! After an early breakfast, you’ll be briefed by the park rangers on trekking rules and assigned to a gorilla family. Then, begin your trek through the dense rainforest, an incredible experience filled with bird songs, butterflies, and lush greenery.
Once you find the gorillas, you’ll spend a full hour observing their fascinating behavior — the silverback’s dominance, the mothers’ tenderness, and the young ones’ playful antics. This is a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounter you’ll never forget.
After your trek, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation, reflecting on the magical experience of being in the presence of these gentle giants.
