Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

You’ll be welcomed by your professional driver-guide at your hotel or on arrival at Kigali International Airport. Begin with a half-day city tour, visiting:

  • Kigali Genocide Memorial
  • Nyamata Church Memorial
  • Local Markets & Cultural Spots

Enjoy lunch in Kigali before setting off on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, passing Rwanda’s signature lush rolling hills.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Iby’iwacu Cultural Village

After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. Armed with your packed lunch and water, you’ll hike through the forest in search of a habituated gorilla family.
Enjoy one magical hour with these incredible creatures.

Later in the afternoon, visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, where you’ll enjoy traditional performances and learn about local customs.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking

Today, you’ll return to the park for a guided trek to find Golden Monkeys—a rare and energetic primate species found only in the Virunga Mountains. This experience is typically lighter and shorter than gorilla trekking.

Day 4: Dian Fossey Hike & Transfer to Bwindi

After breakfast, hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb at the historic Karisoke Research Center. Learn about her courageous work protecting mountain gorillas and her lasting conservation legacy.

After lunch, drive across the border into Uganda and head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Optional Batwa Experience

Start early with a second gorilla trekking experience—this time in the lush, mist-covered forests of Bwindi. The trek may last 2–5 hours before you meet another gorilla family and spend one powerful hour observing them.

Optionally, in the afternoon, explore the Batwa Cultural Trail, where you’ll learn about the traditional forest life of this indigenous group.

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park & Game Drive

After breakfast, depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park, arriving in time for an afternoon game drive across the savannah. Spot elephants, buffalo, antelopes, warthogs, and if lucky, leopards and hyenas.

Day 7: Lion Tracking & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

Begin your day with a unique lion tracking experience in the Kasenyi plains, guided by researchers and park rangers. You’ll get close to a pride of lions while learning about their behaviors and habitats.

Later, enjoy a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel, renowned for its high concentration of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and a variety of birdlife including:

Day 8: Transfer to Entebbe or Kampala

After breakfast, start your return journey to Entebbe or Kampala. Make a stop at the Uganda Equator monument for photos and lunch. Upon arrival, you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport in time for your flight.
