Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Begin your journey with a scenic drive from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park in southern Rwanda.
Overnight: Gisakura Guest House (Budget) or Nyungwe Top Hill View Hotel (Mid-range)
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk
After breakfast, join a briefing on chimpanzee tracking before entering Nyungwe Forest. Track the playful chimpanzees as they swing through the trees, chattering and interacting. This 3-hour trek includes an hour observing and photographing these fascinating animals.
In the afternoon, experience the Canopy Walk, a 50-meter-long bridge suspended in the treetops, offering incredible views of the rainforest and the wildlife below.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Start your day with breakfast, then travel to Volcanoes National Park with a lunch stop en route. Arrive in Ruhengeri in the evening.
Overnight: Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge (Mid-range) or Hotel Muhabura (Budget)
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Begin your gorilla trekking day with an early breakfast. At 6 am, your guide will transfer you to Kinigi Headquarters for a briefing, where you’ll learn the guidelines for gorilla tracking. The trek may take from 2 hours up to half a day, depending on the gorillas’ location.
Once you find the gorillas, you’ll maintain a 7-meter distance and have one hour to observe and photograph these amazing creatures.
In the afternoon, consider an optional tour to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, where you can immerse yourself in Rwandan culture through dance, cuisine, and local traditions.

Day 5: Hiking Mount Karisimbi
Start with an early breakfast, then meet your guides at Volcanoes National Park by 7 am. Prepare for a challenging hike up Mount Karisimbi, the highest volcano in the Virunga range. The strenuous 6-hour hike is rewarded with panoramic views of other volcanoes, including Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira.
At an altitude of 3,700 meters, you’ll reach the first campsite, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 6: Summit, Descend, and Return to Kigali
After an early start, complete the final ascent to Mount Karisimbi’s summit, where you’ll be surrounded by stunning landscapes, including views of Mount Muhabura. After taking in the scenery, descend to the starting point, where your driver will meet you.
