1 Day Golden Monkey Trekking Safari from Kisoro

Start your exciting day with an early morning pick-up from your hotel or guesthouse in Kisoro. You’ll then take a short and scenic drive approximately 30 to 45 minutes to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, located in the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes. Along the way, enjoy views of lush terraced hills, volcanic peaks, and misty forests. 1 Day Golden Monkey Trekking Safari from Kisoro

Upon arrival at Ntebeko Visitor Centre, the park headquarters, you’ll be welcomed by rangers from the Uganda Wildlife Authority for a briefing. Here you’ll learn about the endangered golden monkeys, the rules for trekking, and what to expect during the experience.

Golden monkey trekking starts mid-morning and leads you through bamboo forests and montane vegetation, where these playful primates live in large troops. The trek usually lasts between 2 to 4 hours, depending on their location. Once you find them, you’ll spend one hour observing their lively behavior—jumping through trees, feeding on bamboo shoots, and playing in groups. It’s a fun and unique experience, different from the more serene gorilla trek.

After the trek, you’ll return to the park headquarters to receive a certificate, then drive back to Kisoro, arriving in the early afternoon or evening with plenty of great memories and photos.
