Day 1: Journey to Bukavu, Congo
Arriving from Kigali, our company guide will collect you from your hotel or the airport, guiding you to Congo via the Cyangugu border. While the journey to Congo is lengthy, nature enthusiasts will revel in Rwanda’s rolling hills and the lush forests en route, with glimpses of primates along the road near Nyungwe National Park. Upon crossing into Congo via the Bunagana border, proceed to Bukavu town, near Kahuzi-Biega National Park. Visitors from Uganda will enter Congo through the Bunagana border, close to Kisoro town.
Stay overnight and dine at either Orchid Safari Lodge (Luxury) or Hotel Horizon (Mid-range and Budget).
Day 2: Eastern Lowland Gorilla Tracking at Kahuzi-Biega National Park – Nature/Community Walk
Gorilla trekking at Kahuzi-Biega National Park begins with registration at the park offices. Rise early for breakfast before heading to the offices, where you’ll receive a briefing on tracking rules, expectations, and the park’s history. Park authorities will assign you to one of the four habituated Eastern Lowland Gorilla groups. Plan for approximately 4 hours in the jungle searching for the primates, with an hour allocated for observation upon discovery. Capture as many photos and videos as possible while encountering other mammals, primates, and bird species. Afterward, return to the starting point, where the driver will escort you for lunch and a shower. In the afternoon, explore community homes, Kibati waterfalls, Bukavu town, Mbayo tea estate, or the nearby research center. Alternatively, opt for a walk in Kahuzi-Biega National Park.

Day 3: Return to Kigali or Kisoro for Departure
Begin your day with an early breakfast as you await the driver for the journey back to Kigali in Rwanda, via the Changungu border. The driver will ensure an enriching journey with brief stops at key landmarks and attractions, including the former palace of the King of Nyanza and the Museum in Butare. Anticipate arriving in Kigali late afternoon.
