 Primate Permit Price Increase for 2024

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has announced a  Primate Permit Price Increase for 2024 price increase for primate trekking permits, affecting popular parks such as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga National Park, Kibale Forest National Park, and Queen Elizabeth National Park. This change will take effect on July 1, 2024, for non-residents who are visiting Uganda for its exceptional gorilla and chimpanzee trekking experiences.


New Permit Prices for Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trekking

Gorilla Trekking Permits
For non-residents, gorilla trekking permits in Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga National Parks will rise from $700 to $800. This increase aims to support conservation efforts and enhance the quality of visitor experiences in these unique primate habitats.

Chimpanzee Trekking Permits in Kibale Forest National Park
The permit price for chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park will increase from $200 to $250 for non-residents. Kibale is a top destination for chimpanzee sightings, offering travelers a chance to see these fascinating animals up close.

Chimpanzee Habituation Experience Permits
The permit for the chimpanzee habituation experience, where visitors can spend extended time with chimpanzees, will now cost $300 (up from $250). This experience allows for a rare, in-depth look into chimpanzee life and behavior.

Chimpanzee Trekking Permits in Kyambura Gorge (Queen Elizabeth National Park)
In Kyambura Gorge, part of Queen Elizabeth National Park, the permit fee for chimpanzee trekking will increase from $50 to $100. Known for its lush gorge ecosystem, Kyambura offers a unique trekking experience with its resident chimpanzee population.


Important Information for Travelers

The Uganda Wildlife Authority has confirmed that all permits purchased before July 1, 2024, will be honored at the original prices. However, new bookings or non-confirmed bookings for travel dates on or after July 1, 2024, will need to pay the updated rates. Travelers can still book permits for visits scheduled before June 30, 2024, at the current prices, so booking early is advised to avoid the new fees.
