Bwindi forest is thought to be a remnant of a vast forest that once covered most of Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is special among the mountain gorilla parks because it is the only place where one can also see chimpanzees. It is managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

Note the gorilla permit will be increased effective from 1st July 2024 to $800 for foreign non residents , $700 for foreign residents, 300,000 ug shillings for East African residents and  $500 for the rest of African Residents, while in Rwanda it is $1500. Bwindi has 24 habituated gorilla groups but over 50 others have been left undisturbed wild. It is only in Bwindi that primate lovers can take part in a 3 day gorilla habituation experience. Gorillas in Bwindi can be tracked in four sectors – Rushaga, Ruhija, Buhoma and Nkuringo.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1:

Kigali Rwanda to Bwindi Uganda

A guide from Abunda discoveries Uganda picks you up from Kigali international airport or your hotel and brief you about your tour. Before your journey to Uganda, you  have an opportunity to tour the city of Kigali and important sites like the genocide war memorial centers. After touring the city, you will embark on a 4 hours drive to Bwindi through the Katuna (Uganda – Rwanda border). After Katuna you will head to Ruhija sector, Buhoma sector from the North or Rushaga or Nkuringo from the south all in Bwindi depends on the availability of the accommodation. This journey  gives you an opportunity to see the beautiful countryside and landscapes in Rwanda and Uganda. Rwanda has eye-catching rolling hills and plantations while Uganda has dense green forest around the Bwindi area. 

Day 2:

Gorilla Watching and Departure

You wake up very early to take breakfast. Our guide picks you and takes you to the park offices where you will be briefed and given information regarding tracking gorillas in Bwindi. 2 Day Gorilla Tour in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park get assigned a gorilla group and given an opportunity to hire a porter at a cost of minimum 20USD. Your lodge should arrange for you packed lunch and drinking water. Gorilla trekking takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 7hours depending on the location of your assigned gorilla family that particular day. Once you spot the gorillas, take as many photos as you can and try to follow instructions from the head ranger/guide. After completing the trek, come back to your hotel, freshen up, eat/drink something and checkout. Thereafter, our guide  takes you back to Kigali international airport or your hotel.
