The Ugandan visa application process has been fully online and automated since 2016. Prior to their arrival in Uganda, visitors must apply for their visa online and bring a Travel Authorization/Visa Approval Letter. Visas are not granted upon arrival.

The majority of nationalities must apply online for a Ugandan visa prior to their trip. The Ugandan visa rules do not apply to nationals of about 40 countries. Uganda provides visas for a variety of uses, including travel, business, and transit. Travelers to Uganda can obtain one of the following types of visas:

Tourist or regular visa

The three-month validity period of this single-entry visa can be extended twice for a total of sixty days. It can be used for travel, business, education, and family visits.

Diplomatic or official visa

Ordinary passport holders who are exempt from the visa fees, as well as diplomatic, services, or official passport holders visiting Uganda on official business, are granted this visa

Visa for transit

For seven (7) days, anyone traveling through Uganda on their way to another country can obtain this non-extendable visa.

Visas for multiple entries

This visa allows multiple entries into Uganda and is valid for six (6), twelve, or twenty-four months. Although it prevents the holder from working for pay, it is meant for anyone who frequently visits Uganda.

Visa for Travel to East Africa

Visitors who wish to travel to Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda may apply for this 90-day multiple-entry visa, which allows them to enter all three countries solely for tourism.

Candidates will create a fresh visa application after logging into the official immigration portal.

Choose the appropriate visa category

Applicants will select the kind of visa (Ordinary, Multiple-Entry, Diplomatic and Official, Transit, East Africa Tourist Visa) and then the subcategory (single-entry, multiple-entry for 6-12 months, 12-24 months, or 24-36 months).

Fill out the visa application online.
