Jinja City tourism centre
Jinja city tourism centre, located in Jinja district, Uganda, is the largest metropolitan area and 2nd largest city in the country. It is 81 kilometers east of Kampala, the capital city, and is situated near Lake Victoria, the birthplace of the Nile River.
Jinja, a city in Uganda, was originally named after the Baganda and Basoga people who lived on the side of the Nile River, meaning “Rock.” The British used this information to name the area. Jinja became popular for its River Nile source, cotton processing, sugar estates, and railway access, but faced growth challenges due to the construction of Owen Falls Dam and Ripon Falls.

Jinja city boasts a variety of facilities including a main post office, Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, dispensaries, pharmacies, city hall, golf course, tennis center, football stadium, internet cafes, commercial establishments, factories, shopping malls, cinemas, casinos, and shops.

Jinja, a city known for its tourism, boasts numerous educational institutions such as Makerere Eastern Campus, Uganda Hotel & Tourism Training Institute, Jinja College, Busoga College, International School of Health Science, and others.
Transport
Jinja city tourism centre, a major station of the Uganda Railway, serves as a port for Lake Victoria ferries since the 1900s. Access to Kampala is easily accessible via tarmac roads, Tororo-Jinja highway, buses, minibuses, taxis, and air transport. Jinja also has a small civilian and military airport, and a new bridge construction began in 2013.

Jinja city, located 10 kilometers from the Nile River, is home to the unique attraction of Bujagali Falls, a popular destination for both locals and tourists.

Jinja district boasts historical sites including Bujagali falls, a Bujagali ancestral site for soga tribe spirits, and the current Busoga king’s palace, where chiefs and British colonial governors meet.
Jinja district offers a variety of tourist attractions, including the Nile River source viewing, white water rafting, bungee jumping, kayaking, sport fishing, quad biking, cycling, community tour, horseback riding, and jet boat cruise.
